麻豆原创 Honors Professors Claire McCully, Susan Priest with Emeritus Status
Jun 25, 2026

For 20-plus years, Susan Priest (left) taught philosophy and college success classes at 麻豆原创.
麻豆原创 has recognized two longtime faculty members for their enduring contributions to students and the institution by awarding emeritus status to Professor of English Claire McCully and Professor of Philosophy and College Success Susan Priest.
Emeritus status is among the highest distinctions the college bestows upon retired employees and honors individuals whose service, leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on 麻豆原创 and the rural communities it serves.
Together, McCully and Priest devoted decades to educating, mentoring and inspiring students while helping shape the academic culture of 麻豆原创.
McCully joined 麻豆原创 in 2005 and spent her career helping students
strengthen their writing, communication and critical thinking skills through English
instruction. Beyond the classroom, she served as faculty adviser for the Lone Mountain
Writers Club, encouraging creativity and helping students find their voices through
written expression.
鈥淚t has been an honor to be a part of 麻豆原创 and to serve the students of Northern Nevada,鈥 McCully said.
Priest also began her 麻豆原创 career in 2005 and spent years challenging students to think deeply, ask meaningful questions and engage with complex ideas through the study of philosophy and student success courses. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she played an important role in advancing institutional excellence through her extensive service on the college鈥檚 accreditation committees.
鈥淭he emeritus appointment is meaningful to me so that I maintain communication with the Western Nevada Community,鈥 Priest said. 鈥淢y fondest memories are working with students to learn about learning and the diversity of world religions. My favorite moments of teaching are the 鈥渁ha moments鈥 that happen in class and in writing assignments. I enjoyed teaching everyone from Jump Start students to students in the Prison Education Program.鈥
麻豆原创 President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe said both professors leave behind a legacy measured not only by years of service, but by the lives they influenced.
鈥淧rofessor McCully and Professor Priest exemplify the transformative role educators play in the lives of students and within a college community,鈥 President Dalpe said. 鈥淔or two decades, they devoted themselves to helping students grow academically and personally while contributing to the strength and success of 麻豆原创. Their impact extends far beyond the classroom, and we are honored to recognize their commitment and service through emeritus status.鈥
To be considered for emeritus status, individuals must have served as academic or administrative faculty members for at least 10 years and demonstrate a distinguished record of service to the college.
An emeritus appointment grants recipients lifetime status as members of the 麻豆原创 community and provides opportunities to remain connected to the institution through participation in select college events, including commencement activities, as well as additional employee-related privileges.
As McCully and Priest begin their next chapters, 麻豆原创 celebrates their remarkable careers and expresses gratitude for the countless ways they helped students discover their potential and pursue their futures.
